Legal Experience

As a lawyer, Kim specialized in criminal law. While in law school at DePaul University College of Law, Kim volunteered for the Cook County State's Attorney's Office as a law clerk. She clerked in the Sex Crimes Unit, the Felony Trial Division and in the Special Prosecutions Bureau. Passionate about public service, Kim became an Assistant State's Attorney ("ASA") in November 2009.  Before her appointment to the bench, she dedicated her career as a lawyer advocating for justice on behalf of the people of Cook County. As an ASA, Kim handled all types of cases, including but not limited to, traffic, misdemeanors, domestic violence and felonies. Kim was recognized as a highly experienced and talented trial attorney.

During the course of her career as a lawyer, she litigated countless pre-trial motions, bench trials, jury trials, post-trial motions and sentencings. Additionally, Kim has experience working in (what was formerly referred to as) bond court, preliminary hearing courts, and the grand jury. Kim was the lead prosecutor in felony courtrooms at the George Leighton Criminal Courthouse located at 2650 S. California Avenue in Chicago and at the suburban Skokie Courthouse. Kim was responsible for handling homicide cases. At the time of her appointment to the bench, Kim was assigned to the Special Prosecutions Bureau in the Complex Homicide Unit. She possessed considerable experience and was highly regarded by her peers, adversaries and judges before whom she appeared. Kim was well regarded for her professionalism, even in highly charged, emotional matters. She treats everyone with respect and fairness. Kim was recognized as hardworking and dependable.
